4,200gns top at Ben-nant Simmentals sale

Top price at the major reduction sale of Bryan and Kitty Raymond’s Ben-nant herd of Simmentals, Nantgaredig, Carmarthern, at Llandovery cattle market was 4,200gns and the overall average was £2,063.

Leading the way was Ben-nant Sara, a March 2005 daughter of Corskie Norman and out of a Brinkton Celebration cow – Ben-nant Jennifer. She was sold with her February-born heifer calf by Heywood Regal and was bought by Roger Birch, Staffordshire for this Birch-fields herd.

Sara’s full sister, Ben-nant Tracey, a March 2006 heifer in-calf to Heywood Regal sold for 4,000gns to N. and M. Gwynne, Eglwyswrw for their Chesterman herd.

A maiden heifer, Ben-nant Veronica, which won a first prize at this year’s Royal Welsh show, sold for 3,400gns. This February 2007 Corskie Norman daughter sold to R. Jones, Maesllymystyn, Welshpool, who also purchased Ben-nant Verity, a March 2007-born heifer for 3,000gns.

Averages: 21 cows with calves, £2,222; 2 in-calf cows, £1,338; in-calf heifers £2,336; 13 heifers, £1,667.88; 1 bull, £3,150; 45 head overall, £2,063.
