To be invited to judge your National Show was indeed
a great honour. The Simmental cattle forward would have been as good
as ever displayed there. There being no tail-end at all. At the end
of the classes there is plenty of quality, which in essence means
the breeders are improving the breed. Take for example the conformation,
hindquarter development and growth improvement in the last 10 to
15 years.
The Overall Champion, came out of the Male Senior Class
from Ian A Hunter, with Tillylair Moss a homebred bull. A bull with
great scale, beefing ability and good locomotion. Reserve Male Champion,
was Hazelden Ringmaster from John Minshall, bred by Neil McGeoch.
Again another bull with scale, scope and excellent locomotion.
Best
Junior Bull was Colin Fordyce’s Blair Solomon,
who has everything going for him, very good muscling, and must end
up as a stock bull for some herd this back end.
My Female Champion
came from the second class of Heifers from Brian Allan’s herd,
Glenturk Rita. As soon as she came into the ring she showed herself
above any other animal with presence, loads of character and style.
I decided to make her Female Champion in my opinion to encourage
all these young Heifers that keep coming forward should they have
a chance.
Reserve Female Champion, Whiteridden Maple, came from Neil McGeoch,
bred by Hamish Gilbert, a real beef cow, who also is a good breeder
having bred the Reserve Male Champion.

for their invitation to judge the British Simmental classes; to Rob
Forrest and his stewards who were in control all the time; the hospitality
given by the R.H.A.S., and lastly, but not least, the Scottish Simmental
Club who made me and my family very welcome at all times. May I just
add that I think the Club stand is just about perfect. Well done!!
