Royal Ulster Show 2003 Results

Judges Report by Robert Lunness President

It was a privilege to be invited and I was delighted to have the honour of judging the Simmental classes at the Royal Ulster Show, and on this occasion the weather was great in Northern Ireland.

Class 436
My first class saw a good entry of cows and the first place went to a very powerful cow Derg River Jade. All the cows were a credit to their owners.

Class 438
the first heifer class was a close thing to judge, as all forward were worthy as a prize. The first prize went to Woodford Martha 2, a good correct heifer.

Class 439
The second heifer class (heifers born after 01.07.01) although short of entries turned up my eventual Supreme Champion Raceview Martina-Eval, a heifer big on quality, size and correctness.

Class 440
Once again the entries forward in the third heifer class were a credit to the breeders and owners. Southpark King Kong Weikle 2 was my choice of first place a good stylish heifer.

Class 442
The entry of bulls forward was a bit disappointing, but the two bulls shown had the quality and hindquarters that the breed needs. The first prize with the appropriate name (just coincidence) was Joe Campbell’s Camas Number One who was my eventual Reserve Supreme Champion.

It gave me great satisfaction that my Supreme champion of the day Raceview Martina-Eval from exhibitor Robert Forde went on to be interbreed Supreme champion of the show.

I would also like to thank everyone in Northern Ireland for the hospitality received throughout my most enjoyable visit to the RUAS.
