GOOD COMMERCIAL TRADE FOR SIMMENTAL AT THIRSK
The annual show and sale for the North East Simmental Society
was held and an entry of 27 head forward, all but two of which
found new homes.
A very good show of cattle with an improvement in quality met
a very sound commercial trade, with several potential purchasers
leaving empty handed.
The Judge for the event, Mr Richard Elliott
of Tadcaster, awarded the championship to a maiden heifer, Swaleside
Violet from the herd of Brian & Anne Wise, Hall Farm, Skipton-On-Swale,
Thirsk, which was sold for 1120 guineas to Mr W Warren from Gommersall.

The reserve championship was awarded to Moorside Voyager, a
20 month old bull from John & Gill Smith’s Moorside Herd
, Brownhowe Farm, Stape, Pickering, which sold for 2050 guineas
to Mr G Bowes of Great Stainton.

Top price of the day was the
Popes Laird son, Moorside Voltage, again from the Smiths and
sold to the Judge Richard Elliot for 2250gns.
Top Price Female
was Beaghill Fiona 2nd by Balmano Hitman and sold by Messrs M.
Brears & Sons, Goole for 1650gns to Mr. N. Kendall, Whitby.
