PERTH SHOW & SALE 22nd OCTOBER 2002

Woodhall Manhattan
Woodhall Manhattan
The Perth Sales saw Simmental show the greatest improvement of all the major breeds present, both in terms of the number of bulls sold and the quality of stock on offer. For all that, there would have been disappointment for a number of breeders as the whole week was significantly oversupplied.

Purchasers paid good prices, on the whole, but were very selective when faced with so much choice. Auctioneer, David Leggatt, flagged up two factors of great interest to buyers - locomotion and high herd health status.

Congratulations are due to Hector Macaskill in securing the Championship with Woodhall Manhattan as part of an all round good sale, and to John Young for achieving the highest price of 8000gns for Skerrington Machoman.

It was a welcome trend to see better trade for the Senior bulls than the younger offering. Little difference was apparent in quality, but the move towards younger purchases has caused concerns about the very immature age at which some bulls may be expected to work.
