Stirling February Bull Sales - Sale report

Once again the breed enjoyed excellent trade at the Spring sale at Stirling on Monday 20th February, the pre -sale show on Sunday 19th was judged by Ted Fox, St John’s Kirk, Symington, Biggar, ML12 6JU.

120 Bulls sold through the ring to average £6066 which was an increase of £391 on the year. A total of 14 bulls commanded 5 figure prices which is a breed record.

Topping the day’s trade at 21,000gns was the Reserve Senior Champion Overhill House Guinness from Richard McCulloch, Overhill House, Armadale, West Lothian, EH48 3AR. A Curaheen Drifter son out of an Annick Talisker daughter, he was purchased by A Thomson & Partners, Hughenden Gardens, Glasgow, G12 9YH.

Second top price at 20,000gns was the Reserve Overall & Intermediate Champion Dirnanean Grafter, exhibited by Neil Shand, Cairnorrie Farm, Methlick, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, AB41 7BU. This Ranfurly Confederate C24 son out of a Starline Nelson daughter was bred by Mr F J A McGowan and sold to Strathisla Farms, Moolies, Meigle, Blairgowie, Perth & Kinross, Perthshire, PH12 8RF.

Next at 16,000gns was the Junior Champion Aultmore Goliath bred by W M Patterson & Son, Upper Forgie, Aultmore, Keith, Moray, AB55 6QT. A Banwy Bonzo son out of a Whitemire King Kong daughter he was purchased by Richard McCulloch, Overhill House, Armadale, West Lothian, EH48 3AR.

Selling for 15,000gns was Wolfstar Gold Digger, bred by Mr A King of Wolfstar, Ormiston, East Lothian, EH35 5NH. This Team Celtic son out of a Wolfstar Wotsit daughter was purchased by MR & MT Quarm of Holehouse Farm, Annick Lodge’s Estate, Irvine, Ayrshire, KA11 2AF.

Also, selling at 15,000gns was Denizes Gallant bred by Mr M A Barlow, Four Oaks, Ulnes, Walton Lane, Nr Leyland, Lancashire, PR26 8LT. A Bosahan Dynamo son out of an Ashland Tornado daughter, he was purchased by R & P McAlister, Langalbuinoch, Kingarth, Isle of Bute, PA20 9PF.

Selling for 13,000gns was the Overall & Senior Champion Islavale Gambler bred by Mr W S Stronach, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith, Banffshire, AB55 6LN. An Atlow Dixon son out of a Woodhall Walker daughter, he was purchased by Backmuir Trading Ltd, Backmuir farm, Keith, AB55 5PE.

An Islavale Ensign son out of a Corrick Nebraska daughter, he was purchased by J Duff & Son of Broomknowe, Brechin, Angus, DD9 6SJ.
