Commercial buyers back Simmental

With a record equalling 22000gns and an average of £4,083 for the 113 bulls sold, there was a positive feeling around the sale ring following the outstanding 100% clearance on the female sale the previous evening. The commercial buyers once again stood by the breeding ability of the Simmental and were prepared to go to five figures to secure their choice.

Reserve Supreme Champion and Top Price Bull for 22,000gns Dirnanean Typhoon. Bred & Exhibited by Mr F J A McGowan and purchased by Mr & Mrs D Field, Burytown Herd.

The packed ringside for the Simmental bull sale at Perth, didn’t have to wait long to see the top price of the day. The 5th lot in the ring, Dirnanean Typhoon from Finlay and Neil McGowan, Incheoch, Alyth, set the sale on fire with a bid of 22000gns from new breeders, David and Nikky Field from the Castlehill Partnership, Upper Burytown, Farm, Swindon, to join their newly formed organic Burytown Herd. Placed Senior and Reserve Overall Champion, by the judge Gerald Smith from Drumsleed the previous day, he fully warranted his placing and price. Typhoon is by Halenook Panache and is a big strong bull with excellent growth figures out of Dirnanean Petula P12 from one of the top dam lines, who calved him as a heifer. His Grand dam is the outstanding breeder Dirnanean Kris.

The next top price came at the opposite end of the sale in the Junior Section when the Junior Champion from Lachlan Quarm, Annick Lodge, Irvine, Annick Talisker sold to the Chairman of Shows and sales for the Society, Hector Macaskill from Woodhall at Innerwick, Dunbar for 20000gns. Talisker is an October 2006 son of Sterling Nelson, who is by Sterling Flint and out of Annick Brackens Primrose by Innerwick Lancelot. He again had excellent growth figures.
