Simmental hits the centre record at the Newark sale 18th March 2017. The pre-sale show was judged by Richard Storer Smith of Spath Farm House, Ashbourne Road, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire ST14 5AP

Topping the trade of all breeds on the day at 7500gns was Heathbrow Governor 15, bred by D A & L A Sapsed, High Heath Farm, Codicote, Hitchin, Hertfordshire SG4 8SZ A Heathbrow Ex Factor 13 son out of a Blackford Harvester daughter, he was purchased by John Lyle, Nether Pratis, Leven, Scotland.

Second top price at 4000gns was Sacombe Gladiator 15, Overall & Male Champion, bred by Mr & Mr P B & J A Borlase, Sacombe Hill Farm, Sacombe Hill, Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire SG13 3NL. This Clonagh World Class son out of a Glenturk Nomad daughter was purchased by W R Eales & Son, Brook Hill Farm, Peatling Magna, Leicester (Peatling herd).

Next at 3800gns was Hemingford Gandalf 15, Reserve Overall & Reserve Male Champion, bred by Mr J A Griffin & Mrs S Arkley, 54 Common Lane, Hemingford Abbots, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire PE28 9AW. A Corskie Dreamer 12 son out of a Starline Wizzkidd daughter, he was purchased by S & M Thackray, Manor House, Briestfield Road, Thornhill, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (Breezefield herd).

Thursford Ruffles 31st sold for 3800gns to CMR Soutar - Peasiehill Farm, Angus (Peasiehill)

Overall it was a great day for the breed, with a packed-out ring side and a real buzz around the cattle lines, the demand and interest for the Simmental was clear to see.
