Leading the trade at 8,800gns was Scotland Hill Cairo 11 from Doncaster-based breeder Thomas Hill. This Scotland Viper son, from a Brinkton Excellent dam, has earlier been tapped out as the Male and Overall Champion at the pre-sale show. He now travels to East Anglia, to join the Thursford Herd of new owner Mr D Mitchell, Norfolk.

Burghbridge Chester 11 - 5,000gns

Following at 5,000gns was Burghbridge Chester 11 from Mr C J G Clarke, Otley. Sired by Brinkton Major he carried a Self Replacement Index of +80, Buying this time was Mr K Preston, Cathpair, Galashiels.

Next best at 4,800gns was Newbiemains Conformer 11 from Jim and Patricia Goldie, Annan. A Blackford Albatross son,he was purchased by Lanton Estate, Northumberland.

A run of bulls traded at 4,600gns; firstly Bavington Courageous from JJ & JM Sanders, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. he was knocked down to the day’s judge, Mr Terry Coghill, Orkney. W J Hollingsworth, Sheffield then hit the same price with Midhope Commander 11. Sired by Corskie Wealth, and carrying solid across-the-board EBV’s, he now travels to Ayrshire with buyers J Mevlville & Sons, Girvan. Glenturk Cosworth 11, from BG & L Allan, Dumfriesshire, followed again at the same money. he was knocked down to Messrs C & J McBryde, Lockerbie.

Females topped at 2,000gns twice. The first to sell at this price was Sterling Samantha’s Dream, a Darsham Lucky Strike daughter from a Corskie Principal-sired dam from the Sterling Herd of Boddington Estates Ltd. Followed by Sterling Anna’s Duchess at the same price, a Sterling Boston daughter, Purchasing both times was Mr R McCulloch, West Lothian for the growing Overhill House prefix.

Penwern Branwen with heifer calf - 6,100gns

Included in the sale was the dispersal of the noted Dolwen Herd of Bryn and Rhiannon Jones, Abergele. Stealing the limelight was Penwern Branwen, a 2010-born Samark Superman daughter with an Auchorachan Wizard heifer calf at foot. She was knocked down for 6,100gns and also heads to West Lothian with buyer Mr R McCulloch Overhill House.

Going under the hammer at 4,200gns was Blackford Rhiannon; 2004-born and sired by Kilbride Farm Millar, she sold with a Keeldrum Schubert bull calf at foot and stays with her stablemate; again heading to Mr R McCulloch.
