3rd best price was Keeldrum Bilko bred by David Lowry was sold for 3,400gns & Midhope Bruno bred by W J Hollingsworth was sold for 3,000gns.

Reserve Overall Champion & Female Champion Chestermann Triton Marie bred by N & N Gwynne and sold for 2,500gns.

Reserve Female Champion Pasturefields Princess Versace and top priced female of the day bred by R M Birch was sold for 3,900gns.

Stirling Autumn Sale - 22,000 Breed Record equalled


Commercial trade led to a tremendously high clearance of top quality bulls with 38 selling for over 5,000gns. The Simmental breed has the ability to cross with any other breed to produce top quality milky replacements and also have the terminal abilities and DLWG that can match any other breed. The driving of health within the breed gives our customers confidence in the animals led to the best October sale the breed has seen in recent times.

With a jam packed ringside the sale got off to a flying start with Jim & Patricia Goldie’s bull (Newbiemains) Newbiemains Apache by Woodhall Sympa with a TSI of +23 & SRI +25, he sold to D & P Cornthwaite, Lockerbie Dumfries.

Lot 602 Dirnanean Bradley

Topping the sale and equalling the breed record of 22,000gns was Dirnanean Bradley which also was 1st in his class, his TSI is +32 & SRI +37, he was by Halenook Vargner he sold to the Corskie Herd, Fochabers, Moray this is the second time the McGowan’s have sold to 22,000gns and of the three equal top price bulls sold, the McGowan’s have bred two of them.

660 Blackford Ben Mhor

Next to sold at 16,000, selling from Mr W G MacPherson, he was 1st in his class and made Reserve Junior Champion Blackford Ben Mhor he was by Curlieu Knight and held a TSI of +23 and SRI of +27, he sold to Mr Richard McCulloch, Overhill House, Armadale, West Lothian, next best selling bull went to the Supreme Champion and Intermediate Champion Corrick Benson by Omorga Tarbuck and bred by Mr C McILwaine, he sold to Mr Brian Grant Druid Temple Farm, Inverness for 12,000gns he held a TSI of +29 and SRI of +32.

Boswell Bullet bred by Douglas Smith 10,000gns he was by Hockenhull Matthew and held a TSI of +32 and a SRI of +37 he sold to Mr T Coghill, Orkney.

The next best price went to Woodhall Brandon he has a TSI of +29 & a SRI of +35 and was bred by Mr H Macaskill and was sold for 8,500 to Mr D Leslie, Redhill Farm, Mosstowie, Elgin.

Next to sell was the Borlase bred bull Sacombe Balmoral he sold for 8,000gns with a TSI of +25 and SRI+30 he went to Ann & Tony Jukes, Swallowhill House, Sandhurst Kent, the next was sold at 7,800gns for the bull bred by Mr J Dykes Mendick Butch (picture to follow) which holds a TSI of +36 and an SRI of +46 and was by Omorga Volvo was purchased by Mr S R Hitchins of Boddington Estates, Burghbridge Bernard (picture to follow), Senior Champion was then sold at 7,500gns he was bred by Mr C J G Clarke and purchased by Mr W J Barclay, Ardiecow Farm, Fordyce, Banff.

Dirnanean Bali-Hi (picture to follow) realised 7,500gns he was bred by Mr F J A McGowan and was by Halenook Vargner he held a TRI of +32 and SRI of +42 he was purchased by Mr & Mrs B Wise, Hall Farm, Skipton on Swale, Thirsk.

Omorga Bermuda (picture to follow) also realised 7,500gns, he was by Omorga Volvo and held an TSI of +28 and a SRI of +36 bred by Mr John Moore was sold to Mr R H Gladstone, Thornhill, Dumfries.

The Stronachs’ sold 2 bulls at 7,200gns, Islavale Bamber (picture to follow) both by Chestermann Varney (TRI +27 SRI +32) was purchased by Bill Aitken, Preston Farm, Linlithgow and Islavale Baxter (picture to follow) (TRI+24 SRI+28) was purchased by Findowie Farms, Madderty, Creiff, Perthshire.

There were 108 bulls sold to a average of £4841.00 which was up £482 on the year for 24 more sold in October.

Bristol Annual Sale of Simmental Bulls and Females


The Autumn Show and sale of Simmental cattle at the Bristol sales Centre. Greenfields Astra

For the second successive year the female trade led the way at the Bristol Autumn Sale with the top call on the day being 3600gns for Greenfields Astra, a Corskie Pilot daughter with Brinkton Brilliant on the dams side. She had earlier been crowned the Female Champion from Mr G Green, Kibworth, Beauchamp, Leicestershire.

Mr Green also took the second top call of 2700gns with the Reserve Female Champion Greenfields Agatha. Agatha a Brigstock Samson daughter and granddaughter of Curlieu Knight.

Male Champion Alreb Bailey

A packed ringside ensured a 70% clearance of handy Commercial bulls bid to a top price of 2400gns for Sway Bravo the Reserve Male Champion, Bravo a polled bull by Sway Vinney and with Curlieu Knight on his dams side from Mr & Mrs S.L. Blomfield, The Bungalow, Kings Lane Sway, Lynington, Hampshire.

The Female Champion Tidkin Sapphire a Nethan Landsman daughter & calf at foot Mr G Towers, Turners Arms Farm, Yearby, Redcar, Cleveland sold for 1900gns.

Stirling May Multi-Breed Show and Sale


Once again strong demand for the breed was shown at the Perth Multibreed Sale held in Stirling on 2nd May 2011. 32 Bulls sold giving a 82% Clearance, they were sold at a sales average of £3340.31


Topping the sale at 5500gns was Islavale Ajay, a Chestermann Varney son and was bred by Mr W S Stronach.

Strong demand for bulls was evident at the Annual Spring show & sale, at Bristol on Thursday 14th April 2011, which was judged by Mr John Dykes, Mendick Herd.

Topping the trade at 3750gns was Hemingford Abbot 09, exhibited by Mr J A Griffin & Mrs S Arkley, sired by Hemingford Vincent sired by Starline Klassik.

Beanhill Banker

2nd Top priced bull also took the Male Champion of the day exhibited by Mr & Mrs R J & B E Kimber, Beanhill Banker sired by Beeches Kestrel sold for 3300gns.

Selling at 3150gns was Taurus Amazon, exhibited by Alstone Ptnrs, Messrs Loud, sired by Taurus Viking, with Hooray Henry on the dams side.

The Reserve Male Champion, exhibited by W R Eales, went to Peatling Admiral sired by Greenfields Viper, which realised 2350gns.

The Top Price Female went to Messrs Booth & Bell with Crackley Cadette 106T + CAF by Lamhoj Supery and purchased for 2100gns.

Overall Champion was Theberton Augustus, an AI son of Kilbride Farm Newry from Mr & Mrs LJ Dowley,Theberton House, Theberton, Leiston, Suffolk, sold for 3600 guineas. Capping an excellent day for the Theberton stable they took the Female Championship as well with Theberton Amber 2nd, a Burghbridge Nero daughter selling for 2600 guineas.

Topping the trade on the day was Thursford Treble 34th, this Blair Rory daughter which wasn’t shown realised 4600 guineas was sold to C R Fovargue Bros, Bottom Farm, Colerton, Leicester, joining their Edroda herd.

Reserve Overall Champion Midhope Augustus , a Dirnanean Snowie son sold for 1900 guineas.

Spring Sale at Stirling held at United Auctions 21st February 2011, the Judge was Mr Stuart Stronach SNR from Berrylees, Keith (Islavale Herd).

Denzies Amazon

A strong commercial based trade led to a clearance of 78% which remains the highest clearance so far from all breeds this spring and an average of £4409.00 for 110 bulls sold. Leading price on the day was for Denizes Amazon bred by Michael Barlow, an Ashland Tornado son who sold for 17,000gns to Mr G Van De Gucht to join his Deerhurst Herd in Apperley, Gloucestershire. Denizes Amazon has a TSI +24 and SRI +27.

Auchorachan ACDC - 12,000gns

Second Top Price went to Auchorachan ACDC this Saltire Talent son bred by D & R Durno & Sons sold for 12,000gns into the 160 cow herd of Delfur Farms, Dundurcas Farms, Rothes, Banffshire, he has a TSI +24 and an SRI +29.

Junior Champion Killynure Actionman bred by Mr R S R Porter, sold by Mr L A Richardson for 10,000gns.

Junior Champion and Third Top Priced Bull, Killynure Actionman bred by R S R Porter and exhibited by L A Richardson, sired by Omorga Murray and sold at 10,000gns into the commercial enterprise of Jim Innes of Dunscroft.

Next best and entering Andrew and Yvonne Leedham’s, Grangewood herd of Pedigree Cattle herd was Omorga Alonso, bred by Mr H J W Moore, he sold for 9,500gns, this Omorga Murray son had a TSI +23 and SRI +28.

Drumsleed Axel - 8,500gns

Also selling well was Drumsleed Axel by Hockenhull Matthew, he was bred by Mr G W Smith and was purchased by Goldie Farms, Blairgowrie, Perthshire for 8,500gns, he had a TSI of +30 and a SRI +38.

Female Champion Denizes Nelly bred and owned by M A Barlow sold for 9,200gns.

The females which were judged on the Sunday evening also sold well. Topping the trade with Denizes Nelly, an AI daughter of Dripsey Super King bred by M A Barlow, purchased by Jimmy and Vikki Woods for their Popes Herd for 9,200gns this has a TSI +26 and a SRI +33. Next best at 3,300gns was Braegarrie Aronde an AI daughter of Sterling Flint, bred by D L & S Currie and purchased by A Bethell, Brindle, with a TSI of +22 and SRI +20. Third top price out of Draft from Skerrington Mains, was Skerrington Rebecca 44th by Popes Tonka, bred by Mr J Young and purchased by Mr C Inglis, fro his Greencap herd of Burntisland, Fife for 3000gns.

In total 39 females to average £2266,92, the drafts from Dirnanean sold 5 to avrg £2205.00 Skerrington sold 11 to avrg £2267.00 and Westridge sold 3 to arvg £1382.50.

Carlisle Annual Autumn Show and Sales of Simmental Bulls and Females

As with the Autumn sales this year, Buyers were selective and well grown bulls ready to work were easiest sold.

Top price and Reserve Supreme Ascote Auctioneer

Top price on the day 4300gns went to S&C Evans 21 Shoemaker Close, Astcote Towcaster Northamptonshire for Astcote Auctioneer, a Blackford Hawk son who was also the Reserve Supreme Champion, the same herd also had the 2nd top price of 4100gns for Astcote Atlas another Blackford Hawk son.

Supreme Champion Chestermann Adam

Supreme and male Champion Chestermann Adam, a Blackford Ringleader son from N&N Gwynne,Rhos-ddu, Crymych, Pembrokeshire sold at 3100gns. Also at 3100gns was Blackpool Angus, a May 2009 son of Samark Superman form J David Loftus, Lodge Farm, Thistleton, Kirkham, Lancs

11 bulls sold to average £2591.59.

Female Champion Beetly Wagtail

Female Champion, Beetly Wagtail out of Milnafua Kaspar from SD Abram High House Farm, Beetley, Dereham, Norfolk sold for 1800gns, the reserve female champion Pasturehouse Maltesers Flora form JB & EJ Peile, Pastyre House, Bolton Low Houses, Wigton, Cumbria was unsold.
