Our year began as usual with our Annual Dinner held at
Brigg; this event becomes even more popular, with members
and friends joining together for good food and good company.

| The ‘Experts’ discussing
Brian Lundy’s cattle |
Our first farm visit in April was at the kind invitation
of Mr. Brian Lundy, Brian and Margaret made us most welcome,
and Brian explained his breeding plan and feeding regime,
with the stock to see the results of his management. Members
were shown cattle of a high standard, and as a result of
the visit a number of the cows were sold to the visiting
members. At the end of the tour we were treated to excellent
refreshments to finish off an interesting and informative
afternoon.
Lincoln Show was the next event on our calendar,
unfortunately, as with many shows across our region, entries
were hit across all breeds by the bluetongue restrictions.
Our renowned ‘after show’ buffet organised by
Margaret Steele and helpers never fails to attract support
from members, whether showing or not.
Large Herd - Mr. A. Spilman
Small Herd - Mr. D. Pick
Bull & progeny - Mr. A. Spilman
Dam & offspring - Mr. D. Pick
The Norman Smith Cup for the
Best Overall Entrant went to
Mr. A. Spilman |
At the conclusion of
the buffet, Mr. George Young announced the results of our
herd competition and presented the awards. Mr. Young did
an excellent job of judging the herds, which is not a small
task, and everybody enjoyed his visit, and we look forward
to hosting him at our Annual Dinner next year.
Mr. Brian
Lundy won the Easter Simmental Breeders Class with Caistor
Empress 5th and Caistor Winston.
Our final visit of the year
was to Ian and Margaret Steele’s Blakewell herd. We
saw bulls being prepared for the Perth Bull Sales, young
stock and prime breeding stock in marvellous condition and
once again, we were treated to an excellent tea.
These farms
visits are proving to be very popular with our members, providing
an opportunity to discuss and learn from each other, perhaps
providing fresh ideas to take home. As a Club, we are fortunate
to have members who are very willing to entertain us for
an afternoon and give us open access to the herd and ideas.
